For the first time in Germany, Sergei Loznitsa’s new film “Two Prosecutors” (2025) will be screened — a powerful historical drama based on the short story by Georgy Demidov.
Set in 1937, during the Stalinist purges, the story follows young prosecutor Alexander Kornev (played by Alexander Kuznetsov) who strives for justice in the case of a wrongfully convicted man. Confronted with a system of fear, denunciations, and corruption, he faces a moral choice between duty and conscience. The film also stars Alexander Filippenko and Anatoly Bely.
The world premiere of “Two Prosecutors” took place on May 14, 2025, as part of the main competition at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it received the François Chalais Prize — awarded for humanistic and socially engaged storytelling in cinema.
In Berlin, after the screening, there will be a discussion with renowned film critic Andrei Plakhov (in Russian).
This screening offers a unique opportunity to see one of the year’s most talked-about films on the big screen and to discuss it personally with one of Russia’s leading film critics.
